It's been a misty and cloudy morning in NYC. As I passed by the Rockefeller Center, I could see the sun was just about to break through the clouds. So I decided to go up to Top of the Rock. The cashiers tried to warn me saying "You will see nothing but clouds up there, it's really not worth the 25$"... However, I said "I'm pretty sure it's going to be a blast"... No queue at all so I was able to get up very quickly and I think it definitely was worth it
There are hundreds of NY pictures out there and hundreds of them share the same motive: Skyscrapers. So why is this picture any different?
The motive itself sure isn't. It's the same scenery. It's those same skyscrapers. It's the same city. But the feel that it transports sure is. The colors sure are. When I was in New York I found the entire city to be one thing: ugly. Ugly, dirty, loud. Noisy, stinky, hectic. This picture is one of the very few, that shows me, that there is a different side to NY. If you are talented and open minded enough to see it.
The colors are very soft, warm - opposed to what the big apple is usually associated with. It's hints of yellow and red with an even slighter hint of blue...but all very toned down which makes it feel gentle. Quiet. The fog adds to that and gives the picture an overall feel almost like a painting. The view partly into the sky takes you away from the hectic life which we all know is right down there, between those buildings and lets you see the city in a different light. The architecture. The different shapes of the buildings. The windows - I wonder how many people are in this picture, without really being in it...
I admire, how someone can take a place like NY and strip it of all its negative aspects appearance-wise and then turn it into something truly beautiful. I love looking at this picture because of the way it makes me feel. And because it's one of those that can change your opinion about something you never thought you would ever change your opinion about.
Excellent photo. It certainly looks like the cashiers were wrong. Though I do not blame them as most people likely ascend to the top in order to marvel at the view. It appears that decency and honesty still exist in this world.
